Over the last 24 hours, we've seen dozens of high-profile politicians in both parties step before the microphone, each obediently repeating the words that they have been given to speak:
"Edward Snowden is a traitor to his country!"
Really?
In order to be a traitor to your country, there must be a third party to which you have betrayed it. Mr. Snowden did not betray the interests of his country to such a party -- no, not to China, not to Russia, not to al-Qaeda.
If anything, he betrayed the interests of the NSA and the corporate surveillance industrial complex to the American people.
It's no wonder that the loyalists of the surveillance state are so upset about what he has done.
But he certainly hasn't abetted any enemy.
Unless the enemy is us.
